ππππ: The Department of Health (DOH) has released updated guidelines to help prevent, detect, and manage Mpox, a disease caused by the monkeypox virus (MPXV).
Mpox is a disease caused by the monkeypox virus (MPXV), which is part of the same family of viruses as smallpox. It spreads through close, direct contact with:
Mpox spreads through:
β’ Close, skin-to-skin or intimate contact (such as kissing, hugging, or sexual contact)
β’ Contact with infectious rashes, body fluids, or respiratory droplets
β’ Touching items or surfaces that have been used by someone with Mpox
Common Symptoms:
β’ Rash or skin lesions
β’ Fever
β’ Swollen lymph nodes
β’ Headache
β’ Muscle and back pain
β’ Sore throat
β’ Fatigue or low energy
How to Prevent Mpox:
β’ Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms or confirmed to have Mpox.
β’ Practice proper hand hygiene β wash hands with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer regularly.
β’ Clean and disinfect items and surfaces that may be contaminated.
β’ Avoid contact with wild or sick animals, especially in areas where Mpox is known to spread.
β’ If youβre caring for someone with Mpox, always wear appropriate protective gear and clean your hands and surroundings regularly using household disinfectants approved by the FDA.
For Travelers:
All international travelers should:
β’ Be aware of Mpox risks in the countries they are visiting
β’ Follow health and safety protocols at airports, seaports, and during travel
For Healthcare Workers:
Doctors, nurses, and even non-medical staff like cleaners must:
β’ Wear full PPE (personal protective equipment)
β’ Disinfect thoroughly
β’ Follow infection control protocols at all times
